Join us at Strawberry Hill House for a talk and one-woman comedy show (with song), performed by Dr Clare Summerskill. Clare will also be talking to Aurora Metro Books about the publication of their new book 50 LGBTQI+ who changed the world.
Clare is an independent academic, a playwright and a comedian and singer-songwriter. She wrote the introduction to Florent Manelli’s 50 LGBTQI+ who changed the world (Aurora Metro Books), and her publications include Fifty Years of Lesbian and Gay Oral History (Tollington Press), and New Directions in Queer Oral History – Archives of Disruption (Routlege), which she co-edited. She is also the co-founder of the Oral History Society’s LGBT special interest group.
Clare has been performing her one-woman comedy stage shows for audiences in the UK and US for over two decades. She has been a guest on Richard and Judy C4, appeared in The Royal Variety Show ITV, and been part of the line-up of the legendary Stonewall productions at The Albert Hall. She has written for comedy shows on BBC Radio 4 including Weekending and Heated Rollers, and has been described, by Woman’s Hour, Radio 4 as ‘The lesbian Victoria Wood’. Her humour is warm and welcoming and often far too close to the bone for comfort!
