Asif was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire and attended Salt Grammar School, Baildon. Before attending drama school he studied at The University of Bradford and then trained at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He has written many plays including: Combustion, Tight Bastards, Willkommen, The Plot, The Lady and Dirty, Shiny Bradford.
He is a Member of the Tamasha Playwrights Group, the Arcola’s Middle Eastern, Asian and North African writers group and BBC Comedy Room. He has won many awards for his work including a Laurence Olivier Bursary Award, a Sir Alec Guinness Memorial Award and the Henry Marshall Award.
He has also acted in many theatre productions and appeared in numerous TV programmes including Spooks, Doctor Who, The Dumping Ground, Doctors, Casualty and Terry Pratchett’s Going Postal.
