Dawn is the elected member of parliament for Brent South, and served as Labour's Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities between 2017-2020.
Dawn was born and raised in Forest Gate to Jamaican parents. She attended Waltham Forest College before training in IT and becoming a computer programmer/systems analysist.
Dawn was named the "most promising feminist under 35" by New Statesman magazine and was honoured as MP of the year at the 2009 Women in Public Life Awards .
In 2020 she was named one of the 25 most influential women in the UK by Vogue.
