Ellie Challis (2004-) is a British Paralympic swimmer, now living in Manchester.
Challis grew up in Clacton, Essex and attended Tendring Technology College. When
she was 16 months old, she contracted meningitis, which resulted in the above knee
amputation of her legs and a below elbow amputation of her arms.
In 2017 she broke the British SB2 50m Breaststroke record that had stood since
1992. Her debut in the British Para Swimming International 2018, saw her claim gold
in both the MC 50m Breaststroke and MC 150m Medley events. In 2019, she became
the world record holder for SB2 50m Breaststroke in Glasgow. Next, Challis secured
bronze in the S3 50m Backstroke in London. In the 2022 World Para Swimming
Championships, Challis won SB2 50m Breaststroke gold (her first world title), S3 50m
Backstroke silver, S3 50m Freestyle silver and S3 100m Freestyle silver.
