Born in 1990 in South Waziristan, Pakistan, Maria Toorpakai is a professional Pakistani squash player. Using the name Genghis Khan, she disguised herself as a boy for the first 12 years of her life in order to participate in competitive sports with the support of her Muslim parents. She won the all Pakistan U-16 boys weightlifting championship in Lahore but then took up squash, becoming the national champion and the first Pashtun girl in international tournaments, turning professional in 2007.
