Sarah Lucas (1962– ) is a multidisciplinary visual artist
and sculptor known for her humour, visual puns and
uncompromising exploration of gender, sexuality and
language. She was born in North London to working
class parents and grew up either playing on the street
with boys, or making things to keep herself amused.
At 16, she left school and hitchhiked around Europe
before deciding to go to art school, enrolling at the
London College of Printmaking in 1983.
