Tracy Edwards, MBE (1962–) is a British sailor. Born in Purley-on-Thames in Berkshire,
she left home aged 16, and backpacked across Europe to Greece where she signed on as
a stewardess on a yacht in Piraeus, which inspired her to take up sailing. To enter the
Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race in 1989, she took out a loan against her home
to buy a 58-foot yacht and refurbish it, renaming it Maiden.
