Victoria Spivey (1906–1976) was an American blues singer and songwriter born in Houston, Texas. Known throughout her career as “Queen Victoria”, she came from a musical family: her father was a part-time musician, and both her sisters were professional singers. As a teen, she worked as a pianist in Lincoln Theatre in Dallas, and also appeared in local bars and nightclubs. In 1926, she signed with Okeh Records and moved to St Louis, Missouri. She recorded the songs ‘Black Snake Blues’ and ‘Dirty Woman Blues’, which became best-selling records.
